A magnificent stag beetle in its natural environment, in Västervik ...

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

Ekoxen (Lucan Cervus) is Europe's largest skalbaggeart! Is not it charming and majestic, with their large dark red jaws, black center party and the dark red / brown tail. The male is about 8.5 cm and the female without these jaws are very approximately 1/2 as great. Ekoxen is a species that is very easy to recognize because of their different appearance. It lives in Blekinge and is also the provincial animal, komun Kalmar and Östergötland.

It takes about 5 years (!) For the larva to develop, and well-developed liver Ekoxen only a few weeks during the summer. The male's jaws are used to see who is strongest when they compete for females. Most often lose the losing Ekoxen fight life, when it becomes a high nerslängd oak, where they usually liver. Hence the name stag beetle! It feeds on sap from ancient oaks.

Ekoxen is a protected species, and very rare. This depends on several things, one of them is that old oak trees are removed. Although wild boars looking stag beetle larvae as a delicacy.

On a hot summer May 26 2011, I met this chap who was more than willing to cooperate for a change. Found him on a light traffic on a gravel road between Västervik and Gamleby. Has met ekoxar before, mainly females, and it's always magical. This time I had with me only my Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 lens, but it happened to.

Vitsippelandskap the Gränsö

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

At last spring arrived and the dull lövfyllda landscapes filled with anemones, which makes the land more visually attractive. Out on Ekholmen ( Gränsö / Västervik) are blooming in full swing. It immediately becomes healthier and happier after the dull and long winter when it gets a little color to landscapes surrounded it out.

And ... spring wind whispered in my ear that I missed a wide-angle zoom lens in my camera bag. With its compelling voice before I acquired the new Nikon 16-35mm f4 VRII lens , and so far I am more than satisfied with this lens.

Longing for warmth and cloudless days!

Thursday, November 23rd, 2009

20:53 was the time when that photograph was created. Note position of the sun just above the treetops in the distance. A picture from the end of June 2009, when summer was in full swing, the heat flourished and the insects were buzzing wildly about their food (mig!). Today the end of November, the Sun barely at all because of gloomy gray clouds, and it fortunately could be a cloudless day the sun disappears already at 16 the time.

The picture below was taken in Gertrudsvik in Västervik komun.

Geocaching in Västervik. Visit my cache at Hermanstorp!

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Recently, I took up an interest that I was doing 5-6 years ago - Geocaching ! It aims to find "treasures" that are located mostly in places where there is something special to show. The tax box includes a logbook, pencil and trading items. To get to the treasure, you need a GPS navigator (like an iPhone!) that you enter the coordinates found on geocaching.com. In this speaking I have found many places I had no idea they excited, in my own community.

Now I have my own treasure, or cache as it is called the "trade" language! Placed at Hermanstorp at the entrance to Västervik. There are a whole bunch of ancient monuments that are worth viewing, and of course photography. In the picture you can see one of the mounds in the area who are from the Iron Age. So, now log onto geocaching.com , find Hermanstorp , enter the coordinates in the era of GPS and visit my taxes! :-)

Rainbow over Spårö, and its beacon / Rainbow over Spårö

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

The rainbow is a beautiful phenomenon. It occurs when there are raindrops in the air and the sun is low behind the viewer. Sat in my car and enjoyed the pattering rain, along with an exciting book . Motions were put into a higher gear to avoid the rain and Saturday walkers hurried and took refuge, that did not exist. When the rain subsided appeared this magnificent rainbow Spårö with its light-house on the left and ends in Lindödjupets mine.

There are several differences that can be read about here . Chamomile is also considered to have a medical capacity , and used in the past against infections, colds and much more. Translation:

Another picture from the store, waiting for my camera is back from repair.

The picture below is a late winter photography. The ice had just changed its form, from being the big trucks to smaller trucks that were close together and created an irritating sound through friction . pier had a thin layer of snow that today's last sun tried to melt away to let in the spring. One of the fishing boats in Happened traversed port had been out at sea, may have been fishing, or been on the first trip in the archipelago . Händelöp at sunset is magical.
